About the film

Executive produced by Olympic ski racer Bode Miller and Emmy Award-winning impact sports filmmaker Brett Rapkin, THE PARADISE PARADOX explores the mental health crisis affecting America’s mountain towns and the innovative solutions being developed in response.

By opening up the conversation, the stigmas can start to melt away and real progress can be made for the citizens of these towns and beyond.

A special thanks
to our partners:

The Rieschel Foundation, The Dollinger Family, John & Jacolyn Bucksbaum Family Foundation, Brad Feld & Amy Batchelor, The Borgen Family Foundation, The David and Lura Lovell Foundation, Bode Miller, and Mikaela Shiffrin, in association with Alterra Mountain Company. Without their continued insight and support, this would not have been possible.

Community Responses

"Thank you for this. I left Mammoth after multiple suicides, it was SO HARD living there with depression and watching everyone around you fall apart (with no communication from bigger crowds like you & each other) I miss the community more than anything and free therapy for everyone there is definitely needed. It's the only place I can truly say feels like home. This makes me super emotional. I hope this does well."

"Glad this is being addressed. For years it’s been so sad to see so many locals in mountain towns (that are supposed to be bastions of paradise) be afflicted w disproportionate amounts of drug use, alcoholism, narcissistic behavior and more, all in the name of "living the good life" in a dreamy mountain environment. Agreed w the point in the reel that many arrive in those towns trying to escape something. Looking forward to watching this. 👊"

"Thanks for all your doing to bring awareness & help stigmas associated with mental health. My son was killed during a mental health crisis so this touches me deeply - thank you. ❤️"
